President of Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision
I grew up watching my father –Mr. Waman Naidu, in the seventies attend Club meetings at PhirozeBillimoria Pavilion of the VCA, Nagpur. He was recognized as a 100 percenter in Rotary circles. Attending high school, I was first a Member of the Leo Club& thereon became a Rotaractor.
My early Rotaract years were exciting, as our members were from LAD College, Govt. Medical College, Hislop College, VRCE, etc. The projects done during those times are still fresh in my mind. Brides of India show, Feeding the flood affected victims at Butibori, Youth Festivals, Rotaract District Conferences, etc were some of the events.
Some distinguished Members were frequent visitors to Dad’s office namely PDG Rtn. C N Chari, PDG Rtn. V (Bobby) Srinivas, Rtn. K KMankeshwar, N K P Salve, S K Chitnavis, M B Thakker, Rtn. SheodanmalMokha, Rtn. Dr V M Goverdhan&many others. In the nineties, the old memories struck a chord & I found myself getting inducted into Rotary Club of Nagpur with my Ann Shalini, daughter Avantika & son Prithviraj. The background & current credentials were in place & within no time, we were a happy “Rotary family” & made many new friends. My uncle R P Naidu & brother Vijay were already senior members in Rotary.
The past 4 years have been another roller coaster ride reviving the Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision infusion of new blood & watching the amazing energy that these new members have in them. As I now embark upon the President’s office for Rotary year 21-22, the flashes of my years within the Rotary community keeps springing up. I have enjoyed every bit of these wonderful years & will do so for many more to come. We have started many flagship projects like Micro Finance for Women, Smiling Faces Educational scholarships, Nutrition for Pregnant Women, Warm Hearts distribution of Blankets during Winter, Soul to Sole distribution of Chappals during Summer, Dose Diet & Drills treatment to Diebetic children, Kidathonfor Kids, Rotakids, MUNA, RYLA. The icing on our cake is the Covid ICU started under Global Grant Project at a total cost of 50000 USD at SVMM, Nagpur.
I am indeed honoured andto be given the opportunity to serve as President RCNV for the Rotary year 2021-22. You have my sincere assurance, that I will be dedicated to the cause of Rotary in this role, the same way that I have demonstrated my commitment over the past few decades, since I was first inducted into Rotary in the year 1997. My wife and first lady Shalini, shares that excitement and commitment to serving RCNV.
I might have had a late start however, I promise you that with Shalini’s support, I am ready to serve as your President. I can also assure you that in the coming year, I will work with my team, to lead our organization to further success. To me, we are all members of Rotary International and we work together using our own strengths and abilities to serve the organization. I strongly believe Rotary also has to be fun. We need Fellowships and must also emphasize our core values. Again, I cannot begin to express my gratitude for this honor, and I feel a tremendous responsibility to make the most of it. Rotary has been one of the great joys of my life. I look forward to sharing that joy with all of you as your President.
I am grateful to my loving parents former Rotarian Waman& Rama Naidu, for their support all along & blessing coming my way from Radha soami Satsang Beas, Punjab where they reside since the past 27 years. In Ashok & Past President Vijay, I have two younger brothers sharing their love & affection in many ways. My children Dr. Avantika & Son InLaw Eliot from Boston & son Er. Prithviraj from Dallas are also thrilled to learn about the limelight of their parents.
I welcome & urge the Members on my Board to “Serve to Change Lives” in all the Projects &Programs we plan to do in the coming year at the Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision.
